Watauga Lake Engagement Photos

Even on the cloudiest of days, you simply cannot beat the view from Watauga Lake in Hampton, Tennessee. This sweet couple wanted to have their Watauga Lake engagement session somewhere with lots of water and a panoramic view–we definitely found it here!

The best part about Watauga Lake is that you can really be as adventurous as you’d like and still get incredible images. There are many different hiking trails situated in the mountains surrounding the idyllic lake, which provide an array of views for your engagement photos. Or, like this cute couple, you can soak in the summertime sun and splash in the water together right off of the road!

One of my favorite things about these two is that they trusted me completely with their Watauga Lake engagement photos. After they provided me some inspiration images and must-haves for their session, they took my location suggestion and we ran with it!

Hannah was so gorgeous in a simple bohemian dress with her blonde hair cascading and a cute braid adorning her head. Branson was ever the southern gentleman with his boots, jeans, and button down shirt. It was so fun watching them snuggle up on the rocks surrounding the water at Watauga Lake and whisper to each other like I wasn’t even there!

Fun fact about Watauga Lake? Even though it truly looks like it could have been there for millennia, this gorgeous body of water was made by the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1942 as a reservoir for a dam. The lake now resides on the original town of Butler, Tennessee that was abandoned as the dam was completed.

This dreamy Watauga Lake engagement session was shot almost entirely on my film camera. I always love shooting film photography and prefer my film scans over my digital images. I try at every wedding to shoot multiple rolls of film, but it does depend on how much time there is allotted in the wedding day timeline. Engagement sessions are much slower paced and allow for those romantic film images!
