Things To Do In Charlottesville: Your Super Romantic Wedding Planning Weekend

5 Things to do in Charlottesville: Your Super Romantic Wedding Planning Weekend Getaway

Charlottesville, Virginia holds some of the country’s most beautiful rolling hills and mountain views, and it makes for an excellent wedding location. A Charlottesville wedding means you are blessed with four gorgeous seasons, a location rich in American history, and a long list of attractions beyond other towns of its size. For those who have chosen this stunning mountain town for their nuptials, a weekend trip to visit venues, pick out vendors, and secure the big-ticket wedding items is a must.

In between the responsibilities of wedding planning, why not sprinkle in a bit of romance for the two of you? There are so many awesome things to do in Charlottesville; it’s difficult to narrow it down to just a few! Luckily, I know this town like the back of my hand, and I’m here to give you the top 5 things to do in Charlottesville while on your trip (in between wedding planning, of course!).

1. Take a road trip – or two!

Charlottesville is known for its scenic drives – most notably, Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway. Both routes offer miles upon miles of overlooks that will take your breath away. Sneak a trip through one of these drives in between food-testing and linen-picking. A picnic basket filled with charcuterie and refreshments is not optional! In my humble opinion, Orzo Wine & Kitchen Bar has the best charcuterie in town.

2. Sample the local arts

Nestled in the heart of Charlottesville, the Paramount theater is the town’s performing arts gem, and its history dates all the way back to 1931. You and your partner can enjoy the sounds of a symphony orchestra, the romance of a classic movie, the excitement of a community play, and so much more at this well-known local theater.

3. Reset and recharge

Celebrating your engagement (and planning your dream Charlottesville wedding!) calls for a spa day. Boar’s Head Resort boasts a vast array of spa services, ranging from a Blue Ridge aromatherapy massage to a hot stone massage. Bonus tip: they offer an amazing couples’ massage.

4. Taste your heart out

Who says cake must be the only thing you’re tasting during your wedding planning? This town offers breathtaking vineyards and wineries with exceptional wines. Grab your honey and take a trip to King Family Vineyards, Veritas Vineyards and Winery – and heck, add Pollak Vineyards and Jefferson Vineyards for good measure.

5. Enjoy a nourishing meal

A long day of venue visits and activities calls for a decadent evening meal. My favorites are Fleurie (a French must-try), The Ivy Inn (the chef has been there for 24 years), or C & O Restaurant (an ambiance to die for).

hi, i'm danielle—

In the past 10+ years as a Wedding & Portrait Photographer, I’ve found that, aside from arming myself with my cameras to catch swoon-worthy moments of my couples on their day, I’m also bringing a few other unexpected things.

Like my tough love mom-voice that will keep your bridal party in check, my air of calm if you’re feeling overwhelmed, and the corniest jokes so no one has the jitters in front of the camera!

Because so much more goes into getting those gorgeous wedding photos than just hitting “click!”

and I'm not just bringing my camera to your big day.
